Making Soap & Money

I had started making candles to earn some extra money.  While selling the candles at the local farmers market I became friends with a couple that made homemade soap’s.  They also made jelly’s & had decided they didn’t want to make soap anymore.  They asked if I’d like to start making soap & take over that part of their business.

Well I didn’t know the first thing about making soap.  But I’m like sure I’ll try it.  How hard could it be?  Of course the main ingredient in making some is Lard.  I didn’t want to have to render lard.  I mean they told me that it really stunk,  so this was something I didn’t want to do in the house.  Rendering the lard outside wasn’t really an option for me either.

I looked into it & found I could make soap from vegetable shortening.   So that’s what I did.  Now I’m the kind of person that makes do with what I have.   So I had my husband make me a soap mold from scrap lumber we had around the house.  I did have to buy the pan’s cause you can’t use just any pan to make soap in.  The lye that you use to make soap, will eat the pan up!

So I got my supplies I needed to make my first batch of soap & made it up.  It actually turned out right.  I was surprised.  In doing my research on how to make soap I had read horror stories of people burning themselves with the lye or their children & pets.  There were also stories of the soap setting up to fast & getting hard in the pan, then having to throw the pan in the trash cause they couldn’t get the soap out of it.  Sure didn’t want any of that to happen.  So I took every precaution I could take to make sure it didn’t!!

So after pouring it up & letting it sit over night I cut it the next day.  Then soap has to sit a month before you can use it.  So after the month I took made homemade laundry soap with it, took the bars & liquid laundry soap to the farmer’s market along with my candles to sell at market.

Between the candles & soap’s I just wasn’t making much.  I was spending the time making all that stuff, the time at farmer’s market once a week between 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. trying to sell my stuff.  Plus including the time to prepare for market & put everything away when I got home.  I was putting in a lot of hours & only making around $200-$300 a year.  Now market runs from April to the end of Oct.  so once a week for 30 weeks times that’s 150 hours just to earn so little..that’s not including all the prep time!

Now with this online business I’m doing I can make that same amount in just a few hours!!  Would you like to know how you can make that kind of money also??  Click my link below & you can find out how.  I will be there to train you & help you be successful like me!!
